The farm diary of Milton Rhodes, Toms Brook, Va. dated July 14, 1927 contains the following in his own words: On July 14 we was hauling in our last wheat and we found an old turtle under a shack that had the letters SR and the date 1856 on the under side. These initials SR is for our uncle Sam Rhodes. He was killed at Gettysburg fight. So now that turtle is 71 yrs old since that date is on. It is a nice yellow one and bright colored I cleaned out the letters and figures a few years ago it is well marked now. It was on the lower side of Long Meadow.
