A little history on the Bowie knife:
The Bowie knife takes its name from Jim Bowie, the American frontiersman and folk hero who made the weapon famous after the legendary Sandbar Fight of 1827. Bowie later met his end at the Battle of the Alamo, securing his place in American history. Since the 1830s, countless knife makers have produced their own versions of the design, often incorporating unique variations, making it difficult to define a single "textbook" Bowie knife. What remains consistent is its reputation as one of America's most iconic fighting and utility blades.
The D-Guard Bowie, in particular, is closely associated with the War Between the States and the Southern Confederacy. Beyond its effectiveness as a fighting knife, it served as a practical camp tool for everyday tasks such as cutting meat, chopping kindling, and clearing brush. Rugged, versatile, and steeped in American history, the Bowie knife remains a lasting symbol of the frontier era.
