This book is truly a treasure. Adventure, excitement, and tragedy are all contained in this historical biography about the great explorer and founder of Virginia, Captain John Smith. Written by William Gilmore Simms (April 17, 1806 - June 11, 1870), a prominent Southern politician and historian, Simm's does not hold back on the details of Captain Smith's life. Contained herein are his adventures, which include being a decorated soldier for England, becoming a slave, dueling 3 separate Turkish leaders(depicted on Smiths' Coat of Arms), gaining his freedom from slavery, his colonial settlements/mercantile adventures, and much more. This book has a few illustrations throughout, and is ideal for upper-middle to highschool age children.
