The Bonnie Blue Flag’s single star is representative of sovereignty. The banner has been used in many Southern conflicts including The Republic of West Florida, Republic of Texas, and Republic of Mississippi. This iconic Southern symbol rose again as the unofficial flag of the South in 1861 with Harry McCarthy’s song “The Bonnie Blue Flag.” Thereafter it was widely known throughout the Southland.
