What Government Does Well

The Constitution of the United States is a beautifully written and simply worded document that enumerates the function of our central government. All other functions are the purview of the several Sovereign States, or the people. Article X of the Bill of Rights states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the People.”

In order for the system to operate as designed it must be administered by men possessing virtue and it must strictly adhere to the rule and spirit of law. Virginian James Madison, author of the Constitution said, “We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future…upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to sustain ourselves, according to the Ten Commandments of God.” In that regard Samuel Adams follows, “A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberty of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will they be ready to surrender their liberty to the first external or internal invader.” Finally, Virginian George Washington, first President of the United States warned, “The basis of our political system is the right of the people to make and to alter their Constitution of government. But the Constitution which at any time exists, till changed by an explicit and authentic act of the people, is sacredly obligatory upon all.” These men quoted are representative of every man involved in our founding. The possession of virtue compels each person to conduct his public office in strict accordance to the law and the Constitution; not in accordance to his feelings, wishes, ambition or popular notions.

The central government of the Union of States was designed to be small and de-centralized within itself; with its three branches (legislative, executive & judicial) being checks and balances. The constitution called for a House of Representatives, Senate, President, Vice-President, Postmaster General, Attorney General, Department of State, Treasury, War, Supreme Court and various inferior Courts; all to serve the people. The Federal Government was to mint our money, protect our borders, deal with foreign nations, deliver the mail, resolve inter-state disputes and collect import duties. This is not an exhaustive list but it is indicative of the reasonably small footprint it was designed to have.

From our founding until 1914 we had no or insignificant National Debt; that is with the exception of the administration of the 16th President, who created a National Debt, issued fiat money and instituted the first income tax, all in order to subjugate the country to mercantile banking, industrial and commercial interests. From 1789 to 1849 our central government actually accumulated a 70 million dollar surplus. Our founders were very clear that debt incurred by a generation should be paid by that generation. “I sincerely believe…that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale.” “I place economy among the first and important virtues, and public debt as the greatest of dangers. To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our choice between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of caring for them, they will be happy.” -Thomas Jefferson. “…avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt, not only be shunning occasions of expense, but by vigorous exertions in times of Peace to discharge the Debts which unavoidable wars may have occasioned, not ungenerously throwing upon posterity the burden which we ourselves ought to bear.” – George Washington.

Today there exists in Washington City a great organism; dedicated to consumption of the labor and fruits of the labor of the citizens it has sworn to serve. It possesses a right arm and a left arm but both arms are attached to the same voracious appetite. Its administrators, sworn to defend the Constitution ignore it regularly, because in the environment they have created, they can. Frederic Bastiat, the French economic historian states it perfectly: “When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.” Our government servants have created both the laws and moral code to justify their plunder. It began in 1861 when our Republic was murdered and in its place grew the Hamiltonian aberration which was known as the “American System."

The American System is a system of legal plunder. Edgar Lee Masters addresses this very issue in his 1931 work, Lincoln the Man. We find on pages 26 and 27, “…Clay (follower of Hamilton and idol of Lincoln) was the champion of that political system which doles favors to the strong in order to win and keep their adherence. His system offered shelter to devious schemes and corrupt enterprises. …He was the beloved son of Alexander Hamilton with his corrupt funding schemes, his superstitions concerning the advantage of a public debt, and a people taxed to make profits for enterprises that cannot stand alone. His example and his doctrines led to the creation of a party that had no platform to announce, because its principles were plunder and nothing else.”  Big government proponents during our founding were called monarchists as they desired a large centrally controlled government from which favor could be easily purchased as was their experience in England. Thomas Jefferson said this to President Washington with regard to the monarchists, “These men have no right to office. If a monarchist be in office, anywhere, and it be known to the President, the oath he has taken to support the Constitution imperiously requires the instantaneous dismissal of such an officer; and I hold the President criminal if he permitted such to remain.” As of this writing it would appear that both political parties have embraced the American System with abandon. Who shall be held criminal for breaking their oath?

Here is an example of the American System at work. Our 16th President was a modestly wealthy attorney who labored for Northeastern Railroad interests. His followers in Congress introduced a bill to subsidize a Transcontinental Railroad and he was given the responsibility in 1862 of choosing the Eastern Terminus. Mr. Lincoln had spent time in Council Bluffs, Nebraska visiting M&M Railroad engineer Granville M. Dodge (who would soon become a Major General in the Union Army) so it was that location he selected but not before he had bought up the requisite real estate in that town. The primary railroads were the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific. The government promised to pay the railroads provided they laid 50 miles of track per year; $16,000.00 per mile over easy grade, $32,000.00 per mile over high plains and $48,000.00 per mile over mountains. Plus 400 foot right-of-ways were granted and 10 square miles of land was given either by the Federal or State governments for every mile of track laid. It has been stated that the amount of land given to the railroads is greater than the State of Texas. It was an opportunity for theft on a grand scale. Congressmen with inside information were busy buying land along the route, bankers and profiteers were busy buying railroad stock and supply companies, railroads were busy selling land, insiders were busy double billing or over billing. Corruption was so rife that less than three years after the golden spike was placed to open the transcontinental route the Central Pacific Railroad filed for bankruptcy amid a storm of controversy over greed, over-billing and theft of epic proportions that lasted well into 1873. This scenario has been played out over and over and over again with every government highway, bridge, aircraft carrier, construction project or virtually any purchase made by the stewards of our resources (can you remember the stories of $600.00 hammers and $10,000.00 toilets?). So routine have these incidents become that they are no longer even reported by the media as news.

Be suspicious of legislation passed in or for an emergency. During the Christmas recess of 1913 certain legislators (who were in the pockets of International Bankers) insisted that it was of supreme importance, because of a National Banking Crisis (which was caused by the same International Bankers), that The Emergency Banking Act be passed immediately; and it was passed. This was perhaps the grandest swindle ever perpetrated. As a Sovereign Nation America was capable of minting money or printing currency as a medium of exchange for little expense. However, under the 1913 Emergency Banking Act, that sovereign right was given to a cartel of International Bankers who formed a private profit corporation called the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve prints currency then loans it to the United States Government with interest. President Woodrow Wilson who signed the legislation into law said in later years, “A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the world.” Mayer Amschel Rothschild, the father of International Banking who succeeded in gaining control of the Bank of England and whose progeny succeeded with the Federal Reserve said, “Give me control of a nation’s money and I care not who makes the laws.” And in an internal report of Rothschild Brothers of London in 1863 it states, “The few who understand the system, will either be so interested from its profits or so dependent on its favors, that there will be no opposition from that class, while on the other hand, the great body of people mentally incapable of comprehending the tremendous advantage that capital derives from the system, will bear its burdens without complaint, and perhaps without even suspecting that the system is inimical [hostile] to their interests.” John Maynard Keynes, an architect of our present economic debt based system and apologist for the Federal Reserve, stated, “By continuing the process of inflation, governments [the Federal Reserve] can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of its citizens.” President James A. Garfield said, “Whoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce.” Finally, the Bolshevik Leo N. Tolstoy, in discussing fiat-money said, “Money is a new form of slavery, and distinguishable from the old simply by the fact that it is impersonal – that there is no human relation between master and slave.” Thus we are taxed billions of dollars per year to pay the interest on currency we borrow that rightfully and constitutionally we should own, interest free.

Neither is our Judicial Branch of government free from the influence of the American System. Judges routinely site flawed precedent, or even worse, create their own flawed version of precedent. Who can know their hearts and minds? Suffice to say they are motivated either by ambition, greed, pride or avarice but certainly not by the Constitution. In the summer of 2012 the Supreme Court ruled the largest most comprehensive bill designed for our subjugation as a legal tax when throughout the proceedings government attorneys argued the Health Care Bill was not a tax. It can only be surmised that other agendas were at work sufficient to place the Constitution secondary. Following the American Civil War (which wasn’t a civil war) the State of Texas brought suit against the Federal Government. Chief Justice Salmon P. Chase divined that secession was unconstitutional and illegal, thus Texas lost their legal battle, setting the precedent that States are subservient to Washington. This nullified decades of tradition which instructed that the States had merely given power of attorney to the Federal Government for very specific tasks and that should it prove this relationship injurious to the States they were free to withdrawal their participation in the voluntary Union. Our Declaration of Independence states: “…That to secure these rights Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Alexis de Tocqueville, keen observer of the American experiment said, “The Union was formed by the voluntary agreement of the States; in uniting together they have not forfeited their nationality, nor have they been reduced to the condition of one and the same people. If one of the States chooses to withdraw from the compact, it would be difficult to disapprove its right in doing so, and the Federal Government would have no means of maintaining its claims directly either by force or right.” James Madison said, The use of force against a State would be more like a declaration of war than an infliction of punishment, and would probably be considered by the party attacked as a dissolution of all previous compacts.” Congressman Abraham Lincoln said in 1848, “Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right.” The law text, A View of the Constitution, in use at the United States Military Academy at West Point prior to 1860, was written by Pennsylvania Lawyer William Rawle, LL.D. who was incidentally close friends with Benjamin Franklin and George Washington’s choice as U.S. Attorney for Pennsylvania. William Rawle caused it to be published in 1825 and it states, “The secession of a State from the Union depends upon the will of the people of such state. …Still, however, the secession must in such case be distinctly and peremptorily declared to take place, and in such case – as in the case of unconditional secession, the previous ligament with the Union, would be legitimately and fairly destroyed. But in either case the people is the only moving power.” Many Judges opine that our Constitution is a living document which means it changes with the times. Let me ask you, would you willingly sign a document, binding your children, grand children, great-grand children and great-great grand children et.al., knowing that the interpretation of that document would be left open for future interpretation at any time by scores of various lawyers for scores of various purposes? Would you agree to play big money poker with me if I stipulated that the rules would be living rules and that I could change them at any time to suit my fancy? How often have we heard of a murderer, caught in the act, going free because the arresting officer did not read him his rights? United States Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor actually admitted, “Over time we will rely increasingly…on international and foreign courts in examining domestic issues.” Have we all been under the mistaken belief that our Supreme Court Justices, who took an oath to uphold the Constitution, are paid to interpret our Constitution? It was our Judges who kicked God out of our schools and court houses, who gave approval to human sacrifice in the form of abortion, who sanctified filthy behavior as normal and who mocks God and decrees that we must be a nation with equality of outcome.

I suspect that over the past century trillions of dollars have been spent on Public Education. For the most part those are trillions poured down a rat-hole. People are triune beings, possessing a body, mind and spirit. When any form of education becomes deficient in one of those areas the person that education produces is naturally defective. Christian morality and virtue were paramount in the minds of our founders in as much as they are absolutely necessary for the system they created to function as designed. I am amused at the gall of those who claim our young people must perish in wars so that a third world hell-hole can be safe for democracy. Do those peoples have a tradition of morality and virtue? Do those peoples grasp the full measure of personal responsibility required for liberty? Do they rightfully possess the ability to effortlessly choose between right and wrong? No, well neither do most folk in this country who are products of government schools.

Congress, in recognition of the Sesquicentennial of the Constitution, established a joint resolution approved August 23, 1935 in which it caused to have printed a book titled, The Story of the Constitution. It is a thoroughly reconstructed piece of work but on page 171 we find a particularly telling question and answer; Question: “Where, in the Constitution, is there mention of education? Answer: There is none; education is a matter reserved for the States.” So said a joint committee of Congress! Which leads me to inquire why the Federal Government is in the education business in the first place? Again, if we go back to the “Civil War”, we find that about 800,000 men were of foreign enlistment in the Union Army. Many of those were called ’48ers as they were expatriates of the various socialists wars that engulfed Europe at that time. They were urban, poor and believed the lie of the Red Jacobins of the French Revolution. They settled primarily in the Northern urban areas from Boston to Chicago and almost immediately began fomenting for unions. I imagine this was quite natural as yankee Robber Barons were abusing their help as they always had under their American System. Suffice to say, Unions took hold, the Federal Government got involved and soon learned that Union Dues paid political benefits. Thus, teachers across the country became Unionized and the Federal Government discovered a cause to get into the Education business.

I have contended for at least a decade that American Education is actually maleducation (the prefix mal- meaning defective or evil). Here is what Harvard Professor of Education and Psychiatry, Chester M. Pierce has to say, “Every child in America entering school at the age of 5 is mentally ill because he comes to school with certain allegiances to our founding fathers, toward our elected officials, toward his parents, toward a belief in a supernatural being, and toward the sovereignty of this nation as a separate entity. It is up to you teachers to make all these sick children well – by creating the international child of the future.” William Coulson, Director of the Research Council of Ethnopsychology had this to add, “This [Outcome Based Education] is an idea where we drop subject matter and we drop Carnegie Units [Grading from A – F] and we just let students find their way, keeping them in school until they manifest the politically correct attitudes. You see, one of the effects of the self-esteem programs is that you are no longer obliged to tell the truth if you don’t feel like it.” Bertrand Russell, oft quoted socialist hero and author said, “Education should aim at destroying free will so that after pupils are thus schooled they will be incapable…of thinking or acting otherwise than as their schoolmasters would have wished.” One leading Child Psychologist, Paul Brandwein believes, “Every child who believes in God is mentally ill.” Any education system that intentionally neglects the moral character of their triune charge is producing defective students who become defective citizens and defective parents and leaders. America has sown the wind and is reaping the whirlwind.

This leads me to the point of this missive: What Does Our Government Do Well?

  • They have been constitutionally charged to mint our money (or print our currency backed by money). This charge they sold to private investors. Additionally they gave, sold or traded our Silver and Gold deposits and in its place President Franklin Roosevelt (whose family owned stock in the Federal Reserve) pledged all personal property of all Americans as collateral.
  • They have been constitutionally charged with securing our borders and our borders are as sieves allowing unwanted and illegal miscreants into our communities. We are then instructed that we (who pay taxes) are mean for not welcoming someone who by his very nature is a law-breaker (illegal immigrant).
  • They have been constitutionally charged with the task of dealing with foreign nations. This they have accomplished via the American System by stationing troops in over 150 foreign countries in order to keep the corporations in business there so that they can pay our public servants for the privilege while we the taxpayers pay for the troops and etc.
  • They have been constitutionally charged with delivering the mail. This they deliver but at a tremendous cost to the taxpayer. The U.S. Postal Service looses billions of dollars annually and over the course of just the last century has no doubt lost trillions. In the year 2006 the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act mandated 5.5 billion dollars of tax money per year be paid into the account to pre-fund Postal employee health care.
  • They have been constitutionally charged with resolving inter-state disputes. This is a mute point as States today are nothing more than political districts and Federal Courts are busy inventing new reasons for Federal intrusion into private lives and property. They can’t be bothered by States.
  • They have been constitutionally charged with collecting import duties and imposts. This they accomplish but under the American System there is not enough grease for all the wheels. Thus taxes of every description are invented and legislators solemnly promise to be good stewards of the people’s money while they offer favored tax legislation for their favorite corporation who recently was kind enough to give them a vacation home in the Caribbean or some such.
  • They have constitutionally not been given charge of education. However, once it became apparent to our public servants that education could produce political revenue and at the same time further their agenda through indoctrination of young people; control of education became a must. Thus we pay extra tribute so that our children may be maleducated.

So we have discovered the hard way that government does nothing productive or well, particularly as it is staffed by defective individuals who possess no moral compass and whose purpose is to siphon as much resource from productive citizens as is possible. Government in this nation has failed and failed miserably at their assigned tasks and every endeavor they have lusted after and acquired. The great organism in Washington City exists solely to feed upon productive citizens in order to grow its numbers and expand its influence, much like a giant parasite. Its bureaucrats are nothing more than overpaid welfare recipients as they produce nothing and exist only to further their positions. Their language and methods defy common sense. This is why every speaker will say that what is needed to solve their problem at their agency, park, school or department is more money; when what is truly needed is virtue, personal responsibility and thrift. Any family in a debt crisis, who desires to extricate itself, will endeavor to spend less; but not our overpaid public servants. They insist on having their increases while productive citizens must adjust to decreases. Our Congress of overpaid public servants have exempted themselves from many of the laws that we must follow under penalty of fine or imprisonment; they and their bureaucrats are exempt from Social Security and Medicare while the rest of us are forced to participate. High officials never seem to be strong-armed into paying their taxes as productive citizens are. When we learn of a sexual or financial scandal in government you may rest assured it was not brought to light because of moral outrage; the individual involved was more than likely ratted-out for someone elses ambitions or for not playing ball. All involved in the Federal Government who have taken the Oath to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States should be brought up on criminal charges and dismissed from their positions; including the Officer Corps of our Armed Forces. Shame on them all!

Our forefathers suffered privations we cannot imagine. They took on the mightiest army in existence and gained for their posterity all the true blessings of God’s liberty. They formulated a system guaranteed to function as designed; provided their posterity followed their admonitions. But Americans lost sight of their Constitutional duties as citizens with the help of defective leaders and intentional anti-American indoctrination. The experiment is over, the system as designed is broken. The organism in Washington City is a behemoth and is out of control.

America, fall to your knees, seek God’s face, cry for forgiveness, and beg God to heal our land. He is the only one big enough to slay the behemoth. Absent that, tighten your belt and prepare for what’s coming; bare knuckle tyranny is never pretty.
