Description

Front: 1816 – 1886, Private, Company H 13th Virginia Cavalry “Sussex Dragoons”, Present at the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Brandy Station Gettysburg. POW: Fort Delaware, 5 Months, Point Lookout, 14 Months, Refused to take the oath.

Back: Richard “Dick” Poplar was finally exchanged as a POW on March 1, 1865. He returned to Petersburg, Virginia where he remained until his death. His pall bearers were all Confederate Officers. He is buried in Blandford Cemetery with many of his Comrades.
