The 13 star First National flag was a used from December 10, 1861 until it was replaced by the Second National Confederate Flag on May 1, 1863. The stars are representative of the states which seceded from the union: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, and Kentucky. The flag may also be seen with 7 Stars and 11 stars.
