Product Description

William Rawle was a Northerner, an abolitionist, and a contemporary of America”s founding fathers. He understood that the Constitution created a Republican form of government which, by definition, recognized the supremacy of the States in all powers not relegated by the Constitution to the central government. His views of the Constitution, including a defense of the right of states to withdraw from the Union, were widely held by statesmen North as well as South. His discussions were so articulate and persuasive that the U.S. Military Academy at West Point included his writing in the curriculum of that institution right up until the start of the War For Southern Independence.
