Description

Rufus Harrison Peck was born May 5, 1838 (some sources say 1839) to William Peck and Lumina Finch Peck. He married Virginia Ann Cromer on September 19, 1865. He died April 16, 1923

The 2nd Cavalry Regiment was formally organized at Lynchburg, Virginia, in May 1861. Recruitments were from the counties of Bedford, Campbell, Botetourt, Amherst, Franklin, Appomattox, and Albemarle. The unit was called the 30th Regiment Virginia Volunteers until October of that year. During the war it was brigaded under Generals B.H. Robertson, Fitzhugh Lee, Wickham, and Munford.
