Wayland compiles Rockingham County’s history into a fascinating book that includes 26 chapters and 95 illustrations. Originally published in 1912, Wayland gives the history from the beginning to his present. This was Dr. Wayland’s first county history and includes a detailed account of the establishment of the county in 1778. There are also records of the area when it was still a part of old Augusta County, the geography of the area, much data on the Civil War, a history of its towns, printers, education, marriage lists, militia and Confederate Infantry and cavalry rolls, and a chronological table from 1716 to 1912.
