An undue high opinion and sense of self worth of oneself, haughtiness or arrogance. Holy Writ is clear that the first sin was pride (Isaiah 14:13-14) and that God hates pride (Proverbs 6:17). Pride is the absence of humility and elevates stewardship to ownership. One may take grateful satisfaction in a job well done or contented happiness in a difficult task accomplished, very well, to God be the glory! Human pride is the destroyer of virtue. The little words “I will” have damaged more souls than any other and put into motion a mind-set that denies the Creator and His Divine purpose. Human pride is the sinful taproot of a wicked organism whose leaves and branches represent every vile evil mankind faces. Lustful pride rapes, murders, steals abuses, is selfish and is vulgar. Greedy pride pilfers, connives, cajoles, hoards and is selfish. Pride inspired pleasure is gluttonous, forceful, selfish, egotistical and vulgar. No good can emanate from human pride. It is human pride, which drives popular culture and it’s Siamese twin: politics. A prideful nation or leaders are set for destruction (Proverbs 16:18), simply study history. Pride is the license weak folk energize to accomplish devious ambition as it satisfies their temporal appetite. The words “I will” is the destroyer of souls, peoples, cultures and civilizations.
