“I DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR” – A Christian Perspective
By Rex Miller
The 1828 Dictionary of the English Language by Noah Webster very clearly defines the word Oath; which bears particularly upon public officeholders who swear upon the Holy Bible. “Oath, n. A Solemn affirmation or declaration, made with an appeal to God for the truth of what is affirmed. The appeal to God in an oath, implies that the person imprecates his vengeance and renounces his favor if the declaration is false, or if the declaration is a promise, the person invokes the vengeance of God if he should fail to fulfill it. A false oath is called perjury.”
God’s Holy Word clearly states in Zechariah 8:17 KJV, “And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbor; and love no false oath; for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord.” And Jesus makes it plain in Matthew 12:36-37 KJV, “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give an account thereof in the Day of Judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt becondemned.”Proverbs 6:18-19 KJV also makes it clear that God hates lying and false oaths.
Article II Section I and Article VI of the Constitution of the United States proscribes a mandatory oath of office for the President, Senators, Representatives, all Executive and Judicial Officers both of the United States and of the several States and all Members of the several State Legislatures who shall be bound by an Oath to support the Constitution. Our Founders founded a Christian Republic regardless of the denials of the Marxist fever swamp professors and their progeny; the evidence is abundant for all to investigate. For example, Harvard and Yale were founded as Seminary Colleges to educate ministers in the Gospel of Christ; yet Christianity is mocked in those schools today. The heathenism that infected Yankee New England before the Civil War has since metastasized into our entire culture and is destroying the very fabric of Christian civilization at an alarming rate.
An oath taken by a Christian is a seriously important utterance and taken by a non-Christian is prima facie evidence against their eligibility for the office. How can one place an individual into a position of trust that would intentionally lie on the oath to defend the Constitution and then expect them to be honest public servants? A Christian is defined as a follower of Christ; but today many who profess to be Christian know nothing of Him. You see, the re-definition of words, systematic indoctrination and the abundance of trivial preoccupation has created a culture that is fueled by emotion rather than fact. Additionally, a basic tenant of Marxist-humanism is that it is perfectly acceptable to lie, cheat or stealprovided it advances their cause; and provided it is done to the right people.
There are manifold examples of public officials, elected representatives, scientists, researchers and others whom Christian populations naturally believe to be truthful; who in reality lie or manipulate data to advance their cause. Two glaring examples would be global cooling, then global warming which morphed into climate change. The second is border walls don’t work. Both represent fantastic falsehoods (lies) designed to further a greater goal; that being the destruction of Western Christian Civilization and the acceptance of a single world government peopled by obedient serfs.
The Yankee Progressive destruction of the Republic ushered into the halls of governments individuals unfit for public office. Shortly after the war, General Nathan Bedford Forrest said in an interview: “I loved the old government in 1861. I love the old Constitution yet. I think it is the best government in the world, if administered as it was before the war. I do not hate it; I am opposing now only the radical revolutionists who are trying to destroy it. I believe that party to be composed, as I know it is in Tennessee, of the worst men on Gods earth – men who would hesitate at no crime, and who have only one object in view – to enrich themselves.” The abundance of multi-millionaire Legislators and government executives evidence the subtle mechanisms of pilferage available to those who would avail themselves to the “American System” of government made possible by the 16th President. Individuals who possess virtue are helpless against the monolithic organism of institutional deceit. Admiral Raphael Semmes in his text “Memoirs of Service Afloat” remarked: “The thirst of gain, as well as the malignity of hate, seemed, from the very first days of the war, to have seized upon a majority of the Northern people. The Army and the Navy… did not escape contamination. They were soon found, first plundering, and then maliciously burning private houses. The spectacle of cotton-thieving was more than once presented by the highest dignitaries of the two services – the Admiral quarreling with the General…as to which rightly pertained the booty.” The subtle Yankee political pilferage which began before the Civil War became intensified and institutionalized after Southern Legislators were removed as obstacles as a consequence of the War.
In the Yankee Progressive humanist world there is no definition of truth. What is truth for you may not be theirs. In the absence of absolute truth, men do what seems right in their own eyes. Thus sodomites are gay, and fornication is a lifestyle choice, while child sacrifice is called a woman’s right and is condoned by much of modern Clergy; liberty has become license and virtually every wicked activity has become a right. Activist Noam Chomsky, Ph.D. emphasized: The whole educational and professional training system is a very elaborate filter, which weeds out people who are too independent, and who think for themselves, and who don’t know how to be submissive, and so on…Because they’re dysfunctional to the institutions.” Earlier the Baltimore journalist H.L. Mencken (1880-1956) wrote “The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all; it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same level, to a breed of standard citizenry, to put down dissent and originality.” Their systems are, from a practical Christian perspective, defective and dysfunctional producing selfish individuals sublime in their worthless knowledge.
There is a word that adequately describes lying, cheating, stealing, adultery, sodomy, lesbianism, child sacrifice and one world government; it is called Sin. Its proponents are spiritually blind. Jesus speaking of the Pharisees who were the Progressives of his day said in Matthew 15:14 KJV, “Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall in the ditch.” And II Corinthians 2:14 KJV says, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” Even the word “sin” is forbidden in modern Churches not to mention the culture at large. This is explained in II Timothy 4:3-4 KJV, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: And they shall turn their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” Followers of Christ are able to witness the benefits of knowing God’s Truth and most are able to describe miraculous events and changes in their lives as a consequence. Jesus states in John 8:31-32 KJV, “…If ye continue in my word, then you are my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”
To our readers who object to “Religion” within essays of history I say; what is true history but the back and forth struggle of good and evil. If you do not comprehend the bigger picture you cannot totally understand the context of the smaller, and not every people who were victorious were good and not every people who were vanquished were bad; this is the essence of understanding God’s ways. Abraham lied to a King, Jacob was dishonest, innocent Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, yet all fulfilled God’s will. Thousands of years later we are able to recognize the beauty of unfolding events and the timeless truth of Romans 8:28 KJV, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” After the passing of General Lee, Mrs. Lee found in his briefcase a paper on which the General wrote: “The truth is this: The march of providence is so slow and our desires so impatient; the work of progress is so immense and our means of aiding it so feeble; the life of humanity is so long, that of the individual so brief, that we often see only the ebb of the advancing wave and are discouraged. It is history that teaches us to hope.” The men who freed thirteen Colonies from The British Crown understood history and its repetition, which is precisely why we have been provided our specific Founding Documents; all understood the primacy of virtue in government administration. Were all founders always virtuous all the time, probably not; they were just as human as you and me; but they stressed its importance as worth obtaining and knew the errors to avoid.
A study of Republicans and Democrats will only provide a snap-shot in a moment of time and produce an abundance of political noise. Certainly the future of a Nation rests upon the decisions of its leaders, yet overlooked is the fact that the people’s decision of who shall be leaders is far more significant; and the integrity of the family is what will govern that choice. It has been remarked that as the family goes, so goes the nation; which is as it should be since the family was the first human institution ordained by God, and human government was second. Like attracts like and dysfunctional people will select dysfunctional leadership. If your concern is for the future of Western Civilization and this country, I suggest you begin by securing the foundation of your family; remember the admonition of Proverbs 22:6 KJV, “Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, a will not depart from it.”
Surely, Stonewall Jackson’s observation was correct when he remarked, “The Bible furnishes men with rules for everything. If they would search, they would find a precept, an example, or a general principle, applicable to every possible duty; no matter what was a man’s calling.”
